Deck Bug Preventive and Treatment Options

Having bugs swarming your deck can prevent you from enjoying a nice afternoon outdoors. The good news is that there are deck bug repellents that you can use to remedy this problem. If you are living in areas where bugs are a common problem, then investing in a deck bug repellent is a must.

Bug repellent products are specially formulated for a bug-proof deck or home by making them less attractive to bugs. They are easy to apply as they come in the form of additives to your deck's finishing. Most deck bug repellent also deals with other kinds of insects like ants, cockroaches, carpenter bees, ticks, wasps, mosquitos, and wood-boring beetles. They keep these pests at bay for years after application. The best repellents are designed as an alternative to poisons.

A bug problem is not the end of the world. Yes, it's a dreaded issue. Nevertheless, you can do certain things apart from using repellent products to prevent and manage such types of pests. Here are some of them.

1. Keep your deck clean

Those tiny crumbs of bread and that sticky spot where your fruit juice spilled make your deck more inviting to bugs, including ants and roaches. Therefore, maintaining the cleanliness of your deck would be your first line of defense against these uninvited guests/pests. Regular cleaning, wiping spills immediately, and sweeping food crumbs as soon as possible are some of the things you must observe.

2. Use appropriate lighting

If you are using white bulb lights in your deck, then it's time to replace them. These kinds of lights tend to attract bugs at night unlike yellow lights and sodium vapor lights.

3. Dry out wet spots

Insects thrive in wood, especially when it's wet. Don't leave standing water in your decks. Make sure to dry the area immediately after it rains or snows.
